Kristen Bell Asks Straight No Chaser To ‘Text Me Merry Christmas’ [Video]

Kristen Bell and the a cappella group Straight No Chaser got into the holiday mood Monday when they released their single, “Text Me Merry Christmas.” Bell premiered the song on Ryan Seacrest’s radio show.

Bell kicks off the song like many Christmas tunes as reported by United Press International. Kristen sings about her holiday loneliness without her loved one. Then Bell takes Christmas into a whole new territory by saying, “Please remember this December / To fully charge your phone.”

The song is full of funny lines about the modern reality of dating. Kristen and Straight No Chaser trade lines that can be traditionally sweet or downright silly. Bell and company mention emoji, applications such as Snapchat and Twitter, and text message lingo that might leave a few older listeners scratching their heads.

“This holiday you’ll be far away / And I’ll be all alone / So please remember this December / To fully charge your phone / And text me Merry Christmas / Let me know you care / Just a word or two of text from you / Will remind me you’re still there.”

The video looks like it is Kristen’s cell phone screen. The lyrics scroll down while Bell and Straight No Chaser sing along.

“Though you’re far from me, say you’ll BRB / That’s a text I’ll never delete / Choose just the right emoji / One that makes me LOL / And if you text me something naughty / I promise I won’t tell.”

The tune is surprisingly catchy and may make Kristen a household name again this holiday season.

Kristen is no stranger to popular holiday tunes, according to US Magazine. Last year, Bell provided the voice for the character Anna in Disney’s hit animated film, Frozen. Kristen added vocals for the film’s songs, including “Do You Want to Build a Snowman,” “Love Is an Open Door” and “For the First Time in Forever.” Kristen also performed the Frozen songs live in April.

The Inquisitr reports that Kristen’s character Anna has also been linked to other silly holiday songs this year. Bell’s “Do You Want to Build a Snowman” was turned into a Breaking Badspoof earlier this week to the title of “Do You Want to Build a Meth Lab.”

Straight No Chasers originates from Indiana University. The a cappella group formed in 1996, and the original members became a group after graduation. A recording of “The 12 Days of Christmas” that the group sang in 1998 became popular after it was posted to YouTube in 2006. The recording, which has over 17 million views, led to a record deal with Atlantic Records.
