Boy George Cancels Culture Club Comeback Tour

Boy George has cancelled the much-anticipated Culture Club comeback tour. On his Facebook page, the iconic performer revealed that he is suffering with a polyp on one of his vocal chords. As the polyp is hemorrhaging, singing could cause serious and irreparable damage.

Boy George said that he is “devastated” that he was forced to cancel the tour. However, his doctors have advised him to refrain from singing until the issue is resolved.

“To say I am devastated barely touches how I fee. I know that those of you who love and support me will understand that this is a decision I just had to make. I will definitely get better, and see you all soon back on tour.”

The Culture Club comeback tour was set to being on Saturday in California. After performing 10 shows in the United States, the band expected to return to the UK on December 1. Although it was necessary to cancel the current tour, the band plans to “reschedule the concerts for next year.”

Boy George emerged as a talented performer during the British New Romantic Movement of the late 1970s and early 1980s. Although his earlier bands, including Bow Wow Wow, enjoyed moderate success, he got his big break with the formation of Culture Club.

The band’s debut album, Kissing to Be Clever, was an instant hit with three songs reaching to Top 10. Two years later, Culture Club won Grammy awards for Best British Single and Best New Artist.

Although Culture Club eventually dissolved, and the members went their separate ways, Boy George has remained an icon. In a recent interview with Irish Central, the singer and songwriter said his former band “was such a massive part of who [he] was” and he was looking forward to the comeback tour.

“Reforming Culture Club is sort of me getting my house in order… It was another major thing in my life that had been slightly neglected. It was like a room in my house that needed some TLC.”

Boy George is excited about the reunion. However, he and his band mates are all “learning to have new relationships with each other.” Thankfully, they have managed to set aside their differences. Despite the unexpected setback, the band is looking forward to beginning their tour as soon as possible.

In addition to the planned tour, Boy George and Culture Club also recorded a new album. The band has not announced a specific date, but Tribes is expected to debut in 2015.
