Dallas Cowboys Predictions: Is ‘America’s Team’ Poised For Greatness Or Failure?

When the Dallas Cowboys team was laid low by the visiting San Francisco 49ers, it appeared to many to signal the ongoing saga of mediocrity and disappointment.

The fact that the Cowboys’ home stadium was a virtual sea of red only served to add insult to injury. Only Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones seemed blithely unaware of the fact. It was a low point from which there seemed no recovery. And yet the Dallas Cowboys did exactly that.

Week 11 of the NFL season has given the Cowboys team, their fans, football pundits, and even those who cannot stand “America’s Team” a chance to reflect.

Tony Romo has been spectacular far more than he’s choked. Even after missteps (and serious injuries), the Cowboys quarterback has demonstrated strong leadership capabilities.

Zack Martin has been a revelation, to such a degree he just might win the Offensive Rookie of the Year award. His success this season makes the fact that he was allegedly almost passed over in favor of Johnny Football all the more poignant.

The Cowboys are reportedly considering a franchise tag for Dez Bryant and perhaps even DeMarco Murray.

The Dallas Cowboys agonizing over outstanding players is a problem few would have predicted for a team that has failed to reach the playoffs every year since 2009. Will 2014 finally be the year the Cowboys see post-regular season action?

Despite Dallas’s 7-3 standing, not many have been bold enough to make a definite prediction. The potential is there, but there is a solid reason for skepticism as well. Namely the fact that the Dallas Cowboys tend to finish their NFL seasons terribly.

It doesn’t help that Dallas has games coming up that appear to be the toughest of their entire season.

They play long-time NFC rivals the Philadelphia Eagles TWICE in the span of two weeks. They will also have another crack at the Washington Redskins, who stunned them 20 – 17 in overtime back in October. The Indianapolis Colts may be tough visitors, but this game could still be winnable for the Cowboys.

Meanwhile, the woeful New York Giants and Chicago Bears may prove to be the least worrisome of all the teams left for Dallas to take on. It’s important to remember that games that appear easy or difficult on paper do not necessarily bear out in the same manner during actual gameplay. For example, the Dallas Cowboys could humiliate the Eagles, only to suffer an embarrassing defeat at the hands of the Chicago Bears.

This kind of speculation is actually great news for the Cowboys. This team has been so predictably bad at this stage of the season in the past that there was no reason to care before. Now… anything could happen.

The Cowboys could follow familiar patterns and just miss out on the playoffs. Or the team could stun everyone and make it to the Superbowl. It’s the level of uncertainty that creates the potential for an exciting finish to the Cowboys’ season.

The only prediction that can safely be made at this point is that the Dallas Cowboys will show themselves to be far more interesting and unpredictable than they have been over the past few seasons.

Speaking of predictions, what do you think: Will the Dallas Cowboys make the playoffs, or will “America’s Team” suffer a last minute heartbreak?
