Rex Ryan Fine Could Reach $100,000 [NFL Source]

An NFL source says New York Jets coach Rex Ryan could be fined between $75,000 and $100,000 for his use of profanity during last Sunday’s halftime game against the New England Patriots.

Facts of the incident are still being reviewed by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell however it’s expected that Ryan will pay more than the $50,000 the Jets forced him to pay after he made obscene gestures to fans at an MMA event in Miami during the 2010 Super Bowl.

This newest event came after a fan screamed at Ryan as he was walking towards the locker room:

“Hey, Rex, Belichick is better than you.”

Ryan’s response:

“Shut the f— up.”

Ryan issued the following apology on Monday:

“I was emotional, it was an emotional time … I obviously made a mistake. I was full of emotion and just popped off. Obviously, I know I represent the National Football League, I know I represent the Jets, and I know it was a mistake. I apologize for it.

“This is who I am … I’m about as big a competitor as there is and, at that time, I was in no mood to hear anything, but I also understand I have to handle that better.”

A final verdict to determine the amount of his fine is expected early in the week.

Do you think a $75,000 fine is justifiable given a single swear word in the heat of the moment against a fan who was obviously trying to get a rise out of the New York Jets head coach?
