Remains Of Missing Las Vegas Woman May Have Been Found Near Lake Mead

The remains of a missing Las Vegas woman, gone for about 10 days, may have been found. A search team looking for Susana Villalvazo found human remains on Saturday morning near Lake Mead.

Searchers from the Red Rock Search and Rescue and Recovery team and volunteers have been looking for Villalvazo since she was reported missing on November 5. The missing persons story in Las Vegas has captured national attention after Susana’s stepfather, Samuel Teran, also reported missing, was found in a North Las Vegas fast food restaurant. The 75-year-old Las Vegas man killed himself when police approached, says the Las Vegas Review Journal.

The remains found by the search team Saturday were not immediately identified, and the Las Vegas Metro Police have taken them to the coroner’s office for examination. They were found in a ravine just off Highway 147 near the entrance to the Lake Mead National Recreation Area. The Clark County Coroner will determine whether the remains found are those of Susana Villalvazo, says the Las Vegas Sun.

Homicide police have been reported scouring the area for evidence as well, the Sun reports.

Teran, Villalvazo

Susana and her stepfather, who were last seen at a residence near Sahara Avenue and Valley View Boulevard on November 5, disappeared under what police simply described as “questionable circumstances.” When the stepfather was reported at a Burger King two days later, police attempted to confront him, and he shot himself in his car. He later died at a Las Vegas hospital.

Two teams from Red Rock Search and Recue and Recovery were scouring the area near where the body was found, the Las Vegas Review Journal reports. They had specifically deployed there in hopes of finding 47-year-old Susana Villalvazo in a systematic search of the areas surrounding Las Vegas.

The Review Journal also says that Villalvazo’s family will not speculate on the body found near the lake. They will await the coroner’s findings, which may be reported later this week. A cause of death will also likely follow, which would further shed light on the mystery of the two peoples’ disappearance in Las Vegas earlier this month.

Teran, the stepfather of Susana Villalvazo, is suspected of having murdered his stepdaughter in or near her Las Vegas home. Investigation reports given in the New York Daily News say that witnesses may have seen the man loading a “bloody suitcase” into his pickup truck at the restaurant in whose parking lot he committed suicide.

Whatever the circumstances, the results of the coroner’s report could give the Las Vegas family some closure.
