William And Kate Keep Holiday Season Drama-Free

Besides being English royalty and heirs to the throne, William and Kate face a big question that many married couples face every year.

Where will the Christmas holidays be spent?

For any couple, it’s a matter of negotiations and diplomacy, so perhaps it’s been good practice for the royal couple — and so far, they’ve done really well at simply splitting time between Kate’s family and William’s family. In fact, since the royal wedding three years ago, the couple has alternated every year.

Prince William and Kate spent their first Christmas, in 2011, at Sandringham House in Norfolk, participating in the traditional royal family gathering. Sandringham House is the Queen’s country estate, located about 110 miles north of London.

Christmas 2012 was spent in Kate’s hometown of Bucklebury, at the Middleton family mansion.

Last year was the royal couple’s first Christmas as a family, and they once again returned to William’s family at Sandringham House for the holidays.

Now, though, the royal couple may have another solution. Since they have moved to their own country home, Anmer Hall, they may be able to please both sides of the family at once.

Anmer Hall is actually located on the grounds of the Queen’s Sandringham residence. And, with 10 separate bedrooms, the couple surely has enough room to extend an invitation to Kate’s family to come spend the holidays with them. And yet they would still certainly be close enough to make the short trip over to the Queen’s in order to attend church and share the traditional lunch with the extensive Windsor clan.

No official word from a palace spokesperson yet, but a friend of Will and Kate’s say that the option of staying at Anmer “makes a lot of sense in that it is just down the road from Sandringham.”

And it’s not just the fact that this arrangement could keep both sets of in-laws happy — it would make the holiday low-stress for William and Kate. And with an active toddler and a baby due in the spring, Kate could probably use a laid-back Christmas.

As veteran royals author Judy Wade says, “They could wake up at home, open their stockings and then head to church and join up with the rest of the royal family.”

William and Kate previously split their time between Kensington Palace and Anmer, but are now set to spend the majority of their time in their country dream home after William begins his job as an air ambulance helicopter pilot.

No matter where William and Kate decide to spend their holidays, though, one thing is certain.

“This year, for the first time, George will be into it all, thrilled with the sparkling tree and unwrapping the presents,” Wade says.
