The ‘Doctor Who’ Christmas Special Preview For 2014 Is Here! [Video]

The Doctor Who Christmas Special preview is here for 2014, with an interesting twist. The show doesn’t start with the Doctor as you might expect, but the surprise is a clever one, supporting BBC Children In Need.

The preview starts out with Clara Oswald confronting Santa Claus at the North Pole and looking very confused. We are all told as children that Santa flies around the world in a magic sleigh and delivers presents to the good boys and girls, and later we realize it was our parents the entire time. The story is usually perpetuated every generation as an incentive to keep children behaving throughout the year.

BBC’s Doctor Who Christmas Special seems to be set to parody the entire idea of Santa and how real he is. Clara is talking to the not-so-jolly Saint Nick, and she seems genuinely surprised to find that he’s real. The elves even have a laugh at her, asking if she actually believed that her mom and dad were that charitable.

They finish off the message by telling her, “It’s time to start living in the real world, yeah?”

Santa Claus then reveals how she was a good girl until a particular age. She explains that she stopped believing in fairy tales shortly before we see the TARDIS appear on the rooftop.

The Doctor appears and tells Clara to step inside the TARDIS, reassuring her he’s really back, and she does as he asks. He then confronts Father Christmas, as he’s called in this preview, and tells him he knows what’s going on.

Father Christmas counters, saying he doubts that the Doctor understands what’s happening, and promises that by the end of Christmas Day, he’ll be glad of his help. The Doctor walks away and says “Happy Easter,” to which Santa tells him to save some room for a tangerine.

The Doctor turns back and tells him and his elves, “Nobody likes tangerines.”
