Alfonso Ribeiro Injury: ‘DWTS’ Star May Have To Quit Show In Light Of New Back Injury

Fans of Alfonso Ribeiro and Witney Carson on Dancing With the Stars may have reason to worry a bit about the couple heading into the semi-finals on Monday night. As DWTS viewers know, Alfonso suffered a groin injury a few weeks back. Now he’s dealing with a back injury, and apparently it’s pretty bad.

According to TMZ, Alfonso Ribeiro’s injury happened during rehearsal on Wednesday night. It is believed that he had been trying to over-compensate for his groin injury, which happened as he was doing “The Carlton” in an earlier performance this season. The injury to his back is said to be severe enough that he had to skip rehearsals on Thursday and get an MRI. Apparently he’s having trouble even walking, nevermind learning two new dances.

Though neither Alfonso or Witney have commented on the new back injury via social media yet, it seems that doctors have said that the next 48 hours will be key regarding his ability to continue dancing this season. Unfortunately, it seems they believe there is a very solid possibility that he will have to quit Dancing With the Stars.

Though there are several very strong couples left as this season of DWTS progresses, Ribeiro has quickly and clearly become a fan favorite. He certainly has been positioned well to make it through the semi-finals and likely hit the finals. In fact, Bovada currently has their DWTS odds set, without factoring in for his apparent injury, with Alfonso at 1/2, Janel Parrish at 4/1, Bethany Mota at 7/1, Sadie Robertson at 15/1 and Tommy Chong at 25/1.

According to PureDWTS, this week each couple performs two dances to the same song, with both a “plugged” and “unplugged” version in the mix. Alfonso and Witney are slated to perform an Argentine tango for the plugged version of their song, “Love Runs Out” by One Republic. Then they are slated to do a contemporary dance to the unplugged version of the song, being performed by Christina Grimmie. Naturally Dancing With the Stars fans would really love to see Ribeiro and Carson tackle these dances, but it’s going to be difficult with a severe back injury.

While Dancing With the Stars fans will have to stay tuned for now to find out whether Alfonso Ribeiro’s back injury will prevent him from continuing, they certainly shouldn’t give up hope. Alfonso and Witney have been fun to watch this season and he’s made it clear he’s not one to give up hope easily, so everybody will have to hope that he’s able to continue his DWTS journey.
