Bombing Survivor Farewell To Leg: 19 Months After Boston Bombing, Rebekah DiMartino Has Leg Amputated

A bombing survivor has bid farewell to her leg 19 months after the horrific events that occurred at the Boston Marathon in 2013. According to Yahoo! News, Rebekah DiMartino needed her leg amputated after countless surgeries she had to try and save it. DiMartino underwent surgery for (hopefully) one last time on Monday, and did so with great courage. In fact, she even wrote a nice letter to her leg, wishing it the best.

“I’m sure it won’t come as a shock to you when I say that we’ve grown apart. The love that we once had has dwindled, and this relationship has become a real burden on my life,” the 27-year-old wrote to her leg in a Facebook post.

The bombing survivor’s farewell to leg post has been viewed hundreds of times, but is just making its way to the broader regions of the internet. Rebekah DiMartino’s attitude toward her amputation has been getting a lot of attention because she took a different approach. She really doesn’t want people feeling sorry for her at this point — she’s ready to get on with her life, and to finally be able to do things that she’s not been able to do because of her left leg.

“I love you. I really do. But I think I need to start on the next leg of my journey. So with that said, I have enclosed a gift certificate that I hope you will use. Go get yourself one last pedicure on me and enjoy it because tomorrow…I will be cutting you out of my life for good.”

The bombing survivor was happy to bid farewell to her leg because she felt as though she was in limbo for the past several months. While doctors tried everything they could to preserve DiMartino’s left leg, this was the right decision, and she is happy that she’s going to be able to get on with her life. A life that is shared with her husband, Pete, and her son, according to Mail Online.

As previously reported by the Inquisitr, DeMartino got married after the bombings. The couple, who were both injured on that fateful day, won a wedding from The Knot, and were married at the 19th-century Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina. Rebekah and Pete have been through so much together, but their love and support for one another is truly amazing. It’s love. There’s nothing more to it than that.
