Florene Duke: 75-Year-Old Grandmother Found Hog-Tied And Killed

Seventy-five year old Florene Duke was found dead inside her Douglasville, Georgia, apartment. Although her cause of death was not disclosed, authorities confirmed the elderly woman was hog-tied and several items were missing from her home.

Local officials said the disturbing scene was discovered by Duke’s grandchildren. On Monday evening, they attempted to reach their grandmother by phone. However, when she did not answer, they became concerned.

As reported by 13 WMAZ, they drove to their grandmother’s home to check her welfare. Unfortunately, their worst fears were realized when they opened the door. The 75-year-old woman was killed and left in a “hog-tied” position.

According to reports, Florene Duke was last seen at approximately 9:00 a.m. Monday morning. Several neighbors confirmed the elderly woman took her dog on its usual morning walk. Although she was alone, she did not appear to be in distress.

Authorities have not discussed a motive. However, they confirmed several items, including two televisions, are missing from the victim’s home. Although the neighborhood is generally quiet, neighbors confirmed Duke’s wallet was stolen earlier this year.

As reported by Daily Mail, Duke’s murder is still under investigation. Douglasville Police Chief Chris Womak called the crime “pitiful… terrible.” He has vowed to work “fast and hard, and bring somebody to justice.”

Christopher Duke said he and his family are stunned. He said his grandmother “was a good woman” who would “give you the shirt off of her back.”

“She got a little dog and she just walked her dog every day about twice a day and just sat on the couch and watched TV… They need to be off the street, whoever did this.”

Christopher said his grandmother’s attacker “needs to be hog-tied, like they did her.”

Although authorities have not identified a suspect, they are canvassing the neighborhood for witnesses. According to reports, neighbors saw at least one suspicious vehicle near the apartment building on Monday evening.

With the exception of her wallet being stolen, Florene Duke lived at the Countryside Manor apartment complex without incident for five years. Her friends and family said she led a peaceful existence and enjoyed her independence. Neighbors said Duke was a pleasant woman who was often seen walking her dog in and around the apartment complex.

As Florence Duke’s friends and family mourn her passing, authorities are working hard to identify the suspect or suspects in her brutal death.
