WWE News: Alberto Del Rio Makes Deal With WWE

This past August, Alberto Del Rio was released by WWE due to unprofessional conduct after an altercation with another WWE employee. Del Rio claimed that a WWE employee made an offensive, racist joke, so Del Rio slapped the employee in response.

For the past several months, WWE and Del Rio have been going back and forth, with Del Rio wanting to work for other wrestling promotions, but due to the fact that he was released by WWE before his contract expired, he had a window of a couple of months before he’d be allowed to do so. But yesterday evening, the issue between Del Rio and WWE was finally settled.

WWE released this statement regarding Del Rio.

“Following his departure from WWE, former WWE Superstar Alberto Del Rio and WWE have reached a mutual understanding with regard to his future booking opportunities. WWE wishes Alberto the best in his future endeavors.”

Del Rio also released the same statement via Twitter.

The full details of WWE’s settlement with Del Rio haven’t been revealed. But as of right now, it is known that he will be able to work for any wrestling promotion that he wants to, but cannot use the name Alberto Del Rio as that name is owned by WWE.

Del Rio released a statement that said that he is now available for any booking opportunity offered to him.

“Following my departure from WWE, an understanding was reached with regards to my future booking opportunities. We wish each other well in our respective future endeavors.”

In a recent interview Del Rio announced his intention to join El Rey Network’s Lucha Underground sometime next year. Del Rio would have liked to join Lucha Underground before next year, but WWE was preventing him from doing so, using the argument that Del Rio breached his WWE contract by violating a moral clause when he slapped WWE social media manager Cody Barbierri.

Alberto is now working for a Mexico-based company called AAA, and he is using the name Alberto El Patron. It’s likely that Alberto will use the same name when he joins El Rey Network’s Lucha Underground sometime next year.
