‘Halo: Master Chief Collection’ Launches With 10 Playlists, ‘Combat Evolved’ Not One Of Them

Halo: The Master Chief Collection hits the Xbox One on Tuesday and 343 Industries revealed the initial playlists that will be available. While the playlists cover Halo 2 Anniversary, Halo 3, and Halo 4, Halo: Combat Evolved is not included and 343 Industries explained why on Saturday.

The original list revealed by IGN has been modified for the launch due to unmentioned issues. The result is that the dedicated Halo: Combat Evolved playlist won’t be around for at least a little while.

“We are holding on introducing the dedicated Halo: CE playlist,” Halo Community Manager Andy “Bravo” Dydynsky wrote on Halo Waypoint. “Up until this very day, we’ve been making (and are continuing to make) investments to ensure that Halo: CE’s online/network performance is the best it can be within Halo: The Master Chief Collection, and we’re committed to making additional investments to make this happen.”

Since the original Xbox release of Halo: Combat Evolved did not support online play, 343 Industries ported over the PC release’s multiplayer to use along with the maps. For those that don’t know, Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary used Halo: Reach‘s multiplayer engine, which was controversial at the time.

Sadly, this isn’t the only piece of Halo: The Master Chief Collection that is being delayed. The Spartan Ops game mode from Halo 4 is also delayed and has been delayed until December.

Halo: Combat Evolved maps will still be playable in custom games, plus the Team Slayer and Big Team Battle playlists.

That said, here are the playlists that will be available when Halo: The Master Chief Collection launches. 343 Industries will be updating the playlists based on community feedback afterward.

TEAM SLAYER

Eliminate the enemy team across four Halo games: Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 2, Halo 3, and Halo 2: Anniversary. Nothing but Team Slayer, 24/7. 4v4.
