Anne Hathaway Addresses Her Virulent Haters On Ellen Degeneres [Video]

Anne Hathaway first started to get really bad rap back at the end of 2012. She stirred up even more controversy for herself when she was reprimanded by a fellow group award winner for Les Miserables when she grabbed the mic to add someone she had forgotten in her own speech for winning earlier in the night. After that, “Hathahate” spread out of control. This is the first entry in a Buzzfeed article entitled, “Why Do People Hate Anne Hathaway?” from 2012.

Anne has recently come back into the spotlight, beginning with an interview in Vanity Fair where she hinted that she had taken a break from the spotlight because she was hurt by the negative public perception of her that she saw online, even in the very article linked above.

On The Ellen Degeneres Show, Hathaway was able to talk about the impact of seeing such terrible things written about herself on a daily basis. Ellen responded that she has also faced the same conflict.

“For whatever reason—and it’s a small group, trust me—[cyber bullies are] loud because I went through this, and voices that don’t like you and say mean things really stick with you for some reason, more than voices that say, ‘You’re great!’ So, when that was going on after the Oscars, which you should have been celebrating—you won an Oscar!—and then all the sudden…Explain how you accidentally Googled something and this is what you found.”

Do you think all of the Anne Hathaway bashing was bullying?
