Colorado Police Officers Give Back To 86-Year-Old Great-Grandmother Who Was Robbed

Two officers with the Aurora Police Department went above and beyond the call of duty to accommodate an 86-year-old great-grandmother after she was robbed. According to the Daily Mail, Julia Brecht’s purse was stolen one day in late October when she was grocery shopping at a Target in Aurora, CO. She briefly recounted the incident during an interview with KMGH-TV.

I see this young person running out of the store. My billfold, the car keys, credit cards.”

Immediately after the robbery occurred, Target’s Loss Prevention Department contacted the Aurora Police, as is procedure and two officers responded to the call. Although the incident was extremely disheartening, she revealed things gradually got better when officers Craig Hess and Robert Little arrived. She reportedly told the officers she was in a hurry to get home to her husband, whom she takes care of. She informed the police that he is blind and wheelchair-bound. So, they took the initiative to further assist her to make sure she got everything done in a timely fashion. Brecht explained her conversation during the interview.

I did say that he was blind and in a wheelchair and that I did not try to be away from him too long.”

Hess and Little immediately got to work assisting her with the cancellation of her credit cards. The process was completed so fast none of Brecht’s credit cards were used. But, that’s not all they did.

They went far beyond what any person like me would expect. They grabbed my shopping list. They bought the groceries. One brought me home. They went back to Target and brought my car home. They went to Ace Hardware and purchased a new lock for our front door.”

Aurora Police spokeswoman Diana Cooley also released a statement on behalf of the police department, reports ABC News. The officers gave something back to Julia Brecht, something she thought she had lost with her purse: her peace of mind.

Out of their own money, they changed the door locks to her front door, so she wouldn’t be victimized again if they came back to her address.

The officers’ commendable acts of kindness have also been highlighted on the Aurora Police Dept.’s Facebook page.
