Garth Brooks Serenades Fan With Cancer; Gives His Guitar, Love, And Strength

Country music mega star Garth Brooks, in the midst of his titanic comeback tour after a fifteen year hiatus during which the singer chose to raise his kids while putting his career on hold, displayed the kind of heart and compassion Garth Brooks fans have come to love and expect from the self-professed ‘Mama’s Boy.’

During his concert in Minneapolis, Minnesota,he spotted a fan whose sign read, ‘Chemo this morning. Garth tonight. Enjoying the dance.’ and he pulled her stage side to serenade her with his iconic ballad, ‘The Dance.’

KARE 11 Minneapolis/St. Paul reports that the girl, Teresa Shaw, has not only been battling stage three breast cancer for some time but also tragically lost her father just weeks prior to the Garth Brooks concert. Shaw says that at most she had hoped that Brooks would see her sign and perhaps autograph it for her. She got far more from Brooks than she had hoped for.

‘I found my breast cancer on a self-exam. It didn’t show up on a mammogram, and it was over two inches. I was just hoping he would see it and maybe if I could get him to get it signed. I know my dad is up there and he is helping me out any way he can, just like he did when he was here.’

‘The next thing I knew, another usher was coming up to me and were like, ‘follow us,’ and they took me to the very front, right in front of Garth.’

Brooks not only serenaded Shaw but gave her a hug and the very guitar he used to play the song, a gesture that offered Shaw more than a touching moment but also continued inspiration.

‘To give away something like that is just remarkable, and now if I ever have a bad day, I can always go look at his guitar and get inspiration.’

Country Music Chat Live.com reports that Brooks, who lost his mother and sister to cancer, added the love and support not only of himself but of all the Garth Brooks fans in the arena that night in Shaw’s ongoing fight, addressing her as well as his entire audience.

‘Sometimes man, sometimes, I’m one of those guys that said, ‘Man, if God would just give a big old hand that comes out from the sky and write, ‘I exist!’ then there would never be any doubt, right? Well I want to tell you right now, God just stuck his hand out and he wrote. You have all of my strength, you have everybody’s strength in here, and you go kick cancer’s ass!’

Garth Brooks comeback tour continues through 2015. His newest album, Brooks’ first in fifteen years, ‘Man Against Machine,’ drops November 11, 2014 and is available through his website, garthbrooks.com.
