‘American Horror Story’: Will Season 5 Involve Aliens?

One Reddit user has come up with some crazy theory about what may be the plot of the next season of American Horror Story.

The user known as ace_VXIII has pointed out the various appearances of a top hat during American Horror Story: Freak Show, including the name of the diner and the paper coffee cups. And as creator Ryan Murphy mentioned during an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the top hat is a clue about what he has in store next.

“It’s an arcane clue, but it’s very purposeful, and it illuminates something that you’ll be like, ‘Oh! You dirty b******!'”

The theory ace_VXIII has created is that American Horror Story Season 5 will revolve around Operation Top Hat, which occurred in McClellan, Alabama, in 1953 – a year after the events in Freak Show. This was a “local field exercise” conducted by the United States Army Chemical Corps that exposed unsuspecting human subjects to nerve gas, mustard gas, and biological and chemical weapons. The subjects were then tested for methods of decontamination. However, none of the tests were ever approved by the Secretary of the Army.

The user also points out that American Horror Story changes its setting each season. Murder House and Coven took place in present day, while Asylum and Freak Show are set in the past.

“This leads me to believe that Season 5 will happen with [‘American Horror Story’s’] own version of Operation Top Hat set in the present day.”

Some of the other clues the user points out is how there are so many references to the military and space. The town in which American Horror Story: Freak Show is set is called Jupiter, and the surname of Elsa (Jessica Lange) is Mars. There’s also that mention about Jimmy Darling (Evan Peters) always wanting to dress up as a soldier for Halloween, and there have been several glimpses of what look to be mushroom clouds in the background.

As previously reported by the Inquisitr, Murphy said that each season of American Horror Story is connected. And one of the actors returning for Freak Show is Lily Rabe, who will reprise her role as Sister Mary Eunice from Asylum. Naomi Grossman also returned for Freak Show and reprises her role as Pepper.

“There’s definitely a rhyme or a reason and a connectedness to all of these seasons, but in the same way, they’re standalones, which is the fun of it. But it is a puzzle. And Lily coming back and dealing with Pepper is sort of the first unveiling of that connectedness.”

And that is what has led ace_VXIII to believe that the next season could involve aliens. As American Horror Story fans remember, Pepper was abducted in Asylum, and she returned to Earth with an altered state of mind. But the next season may also have a lot more, the user writes.

“This is what I think Season 5 might have in store for us: Human experimentation, extraterrestrials, government conspiracy, abduction, biological/chemical/nuclear testing/warfare, and military cover ups.”
