Van Halen: Sammy Hagar Predicts Michael Anthony Will Return To The Band

Former Van Halen singer Sammy Hagar recently addressed rumors that a new project from his former bandmates may be imminent, sharing his prediction that bassist Michael Anthony will one day return to the iconic band.

While attending this week’s Classic Rock Roll of Honour event in Hollywood, Hagar spoke with VH1 Radio’s Dave Basner, according to Blabbermouth. The singer, who currently fronts The Circle, along with former Van Halen bandmate Anthony, drummer Jason Bonham, and Vic Johnson, was asked about rumors that surfaced this week of an impending follow up to 2012’s A Different Kind of Truth.

Hagar admitted that he doesn’t know what’s happening in the Van Halen camp. Expressing a desire to hear new music from his former band, he agreed to share one prediction for the future of Van Halen.

“My guess is, if you want me to make one prediction, I think that Michael Anthony will be back in that band because they really need to do that,” Hagar asserted.

“If they’re going to serve the fans and ever do what the fans really want right now, if it’s going to be Dave [Lee Roth], then it’s gotta be Mike too. It’s gotta be the original band, and that’s the way it should be. Nothing against Wolfie [current Van Halen bassist Wolfgang Van Halen] — I love the guy; he was a sweet kid. [He] grew up. I saw him when he was born, for God’s sake — but they need to do that and my prediction is they will.”

As Ultimate Classic Rock observes, rumors emerged earlier this week that Van Halen had completed recording a new album, and were in the mixing stage of the project. The validity of those rumors has since been called into doubt, as Van Halen News Desk asserts that the band have not recorded any new music recently.

Earlier this year, unseen concert footage of Van Halen from the 1970s appeared online, as the Inquisitr noted. Viewed tens of thousands of times, the clips reveal Van Halen as a band ascendent, performing in 1978 and 1979 at the Selland Arena in Fresno, California.

While a new Van Halen album may not be a reality, Van Halen News Desk does claim that a secret project previously mentioned by David Lee Roth is still in the works.
