New Video Game Releases For The Week Of November 9, 2014

Hold onto your wallets, as the sheer amount of AAA games in this week’s new video game releases will probably set you back well over $300 depending if you order collector’s editions or not. Assassin’s Creed Unity, Assassin’s Creed Rogue, Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham, and HALO: The Master Chief Collection are just four of the big tentpole releases for November with many other titles following in their wake, including a new release for the original Wii.

The Assassin’s Creed universe is getting two major releases this week, with Unity releasing on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC alongside Rogue for the outgoing PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Unity is the series’ first outing on the new hardware, and Ubisoft has not been shy in showing off what their new AnvilNext engine can do. Improved combat and stealth mechanics at 30 frames per second is giving the series a breath of fresh air.

Assassin’s Creed Rogue may be easily passed over as the lesser of the two releases but that would be a grave error. The game is a direct sequel to the well-received Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag and also ties into the stories of Assassin’s Creed III and Unity. Rogue is also unique to the series as the player is in control of an Assassin who turned traitor to join the totalitarian Templar order. Ship based combat is a key feature of this game as well as the traditional exploration and stealth elements.

If flying through the air to perform the perfect air assassination isn’t your thing, the Halo: The Master Chief Collection is available for the Xbox One this week amongst the other new video game releases. Gamers will be able to get behind the helmet of the iconic Master Chief for the the original trilogy as well as the latest entry, Halo 4. Three of the four games will be running at 1080p with improved textures and resolution with Halo and Halo 2 receiving the option to switch between the original graphics and the new shiny versions at the touch of a button. In addition, the Halo 2 multiplayer is making a welcome return exactly as it launched almost 10 years ago, which will satisfy the gamers who kept playing the original long after the Original Xbox Live servers were shuttered.

Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham brings the levity to the week as the team at Traveler’s Tales is bringing almost every DC comic character to life in the biggest superhero outing yet. The Justice League, The Lanterns, and even some of the lesser-known villains from Batman’s history make appearances, such as Polka-Dot Man and Condiment Man with his ketchup and mustard guns. The local co-op game tell the light hearted story of Brainiac who wants to add Earth to his collection of worlds. The heroes and villains must form an alliance to take down the evil android or risk losing everything.

PC gamers are also not being left out of the new video game releases as World of Warcraft: Warlords of Draenor launches this week.
