Remains Of Hollywood Executive Gavin Smith, Missing Since 2012, Found, Identified


Two years after the mysterious disappearance of Hollywood executive Gavin Smith in a remote area near Los Angeles, police officials have confirmed that his remains have been found. According to NBC Los Angeles, the remains of Gavin Smith were found by a family of hikers on September 26, 2014. It took them a while to confirm the identity of the person whose remains discovered by the family. Following tests and investigations, on Sunday it was confirmed that Gavin Smith had been found. On Wednesday night, officials from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s office explained that the remains were found in a remote area of Palmdale near Acton.

According to Reuters, the family of hikers initially came across a skull, and subsequently, a shallow grave in which the rest of the remains were found. They also came across some clothing – believed to belong to Gavin. Following the discovery of the human remains, the Los Angeles County coroner’s office positively identified the remains to be that of Gavin Smith. However, they have not been able to figure out the exact cause of Gavin’s death.

Gavin Smith, who worked as a film distribution executive for 20th Century Fox, was last seen alive on the night of May 1, 2012. He was inside his black Mercedes Benz driving away from Oak Park, northwest of Los Angeles. On February 21, 2013, his car was found inside a storage facility in Simi Valley. The facility was connected to a convicted drug dealer, John Creech, who is currently in custody for an unrelated drug related charge. Creech has now been named a person of interest in Gavin’s case. There were also reports about Gavin allegedly having an affair with Creech’s wife.

After the discovery of Gavin’s Mercedes, the case was reclassified as a homicide with Creech being a suspect. However, he was not charged due to lack of credible evidence. With the discovery of Gavin’s remains, they officials will now be able to piece together the clues and find out what actually happened on the night of Gavin Smith’s disappearance.

Gavin Smith started off his career as a basketball player on the 1975 UCLA championship team led by legendary coach John Wooden. He then became an actor and subsequently a film executive with 20th Century Fox. He has three sons.

The sad news about the discovery of Gavin Smith’s remains comes a few hours after the Inquisitr had reported about the rescue of kidnapped youngster Carlesha Freeland-Gaither in Maryland.
