Jerry Jones Snubs Wife, Jokes About Kicking Her Out Of First Class In Favor Of Tony Romo

Jerry Jones and his wife might not be on the best of terms during the Dallas Cowboys’ trip to London for Sunday’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

As the team was getting ready to make the cross-continental flight, Jones joked that ailing quarterback Tony Romo would be getting a first-class seat — because he would be kicking out his wife, Gene.

“Some of those seats really make out into a nice cot, bed-type configuration,” Jones said, via the Dallas Morning News. “He will get one of those. Gene will sit up in the bulkhead. Romo will lounge on the way over.

“You don’t think it’d be me, do you?”

The gesture itself made sense. Romo has been trying to rest his injured back, and the fact that he’s even making the trip is big news.

“The proof of the pudding is we certainly wouldn’t put him on that plane and take him to London and fly over and fly back if we weren’t planning on him playing,” Jones said.

But the fact that Jerry Jones offered his wife to make the sacrifice for Tony Romo was a bit curious. Jones seemed to have a joking tone when he mentioned sending his wife off in favor of his franchise quarterback, and Romo later confirmed that it was all in good humor.

“Gene won,” Romo said.

Romo added that the flight itself wasn’t too difficult.

“The flight was fine,” Romo said. “I slept. It went by quick. That part of it was no problem. I think it continues to get a little bit better incrementally every day. You just reassess it every day.”

While the Cowboys owner may have been joking about kicking her out of first class, things likely aren’t great between Jerry Jones and his wife. The team’s owner recently faced a sexual assault lawsuit from Jana Weckerly, who claimed that Jones forcibly fondled her genitals and kissed her on the lips without consent in 2009, then strong-armed her into keeping quiet. The case was dismissed earlier this year.
