Animal Cruelty: Man Jailed After Microwaving Pet Rabbit

A homeless drifter, living in temporary housing at Dorchester Guest House in Gloucester, England, has been arrested and jailed for sadistically killing his pet rabbit in a microwave. The man, 60-year-old Paul Rogers, was sentenced to 16 weeks in jail and claimed he committed the murder because he was denied medication that he believed should have been prescribed to him.

Rogers has spent time in psychiatric hospitals during his lifetime, and even more time living on the streets before finding temporary housing at Dorchester Guest House. With his life seemingly leveling out, Paul Rogers decided to purchase the pet rabbit, naming her Fluffy George Fudge. He only had Fluffy George Fudge for five days prior to murdering her in the microwave. Paul stated that he microwaved the rabbit for a full three minutes, watching it writhe and scream as it spun inside the sadistic cage. When the time finally counted down to zero, Rogers placed Fluffy George Fudge’s limp body on a saucepan lid in his room.

Rogers claims that he killed the pet rabbit because he felt it was the humane thing to do under his meager circumstances. He felt that without his medication, he could not care properly for the pet rabbit. He proclaimed to the judge, “I didn’t want blood on my hands and I felt the most humane way to put her out of her misery was to put her in the microwave.”

Judge Joti Boparai felt no sympathy for Rogers and scolded him for the heinous actions, according to the Guardian.

“You thought about it, you planned it and you decided to carry out this sadistic act – and not only that, once you put the rabbit in that microwave you watched it while it squealed in that microwave.Three minutes is an extremely long time for anything to be suffering in the way I have heard.”

Rogers stated that he felt no remorse for his actions, according to BBC News.

“Not even a grain of sand on a beach. I would be lying if I said I did.”

Paul Rogers, who has a history of mental problems, legitimately felt he was doing the right thing by ending Fluffy George Fudge’s life, unlike the group of boys that stole a family rabbit and tortured it as previously reported via the Inquisitr. Is it possible that jail time is not the correct sort of sentence for the crime, but rather a mandatory psychiatric stay instead? What are your thoughts?
