Trick-Or-Treating Meth: 0.1 Gram Crystal Meth Found In Halloween ‘Goodie’ Bag
She didn’t get much of a trick, but she sure got a “treat” on Halloween night. On Friday, police in Hercules said after an 8-year-old girl returned home from trick-or-treating, her father found something that looked like candy — but turned out to be crystal meth. Investigators are trying to locate who is responsible for placing the methamphetamine drug inside the girl’s goodie bag.
Authorities investigating the man’s discovery of the potentially deadly controlled substance are trying to determine if the culprit behind the trick-or-treating meth deliberately placed the methadone stimulant inside the bag of candy. It’s unclear if other children were affected as they went door-to-door. Police Sgt. Ezra Tafesse shared a statement by the girl’s father about the shocking incident.
“He had been checking his child’s Halloween candy after putting it away on Halloween night, and while checking it found the baggie and suspected it was illegal drugs. He wanted to report it.”
Understandably, residents in the Promenade area where the girl was trick-or-treating before the meth was discovered, are shaken by the news, as the neighborhood prides itself in a sense of community. Nevertheless, the discovery places parents on a heightened sense of security for the protection of their children.
This strange incident, while reminiscent of the snorting Smarties candy craze recently, which kids indulged in as a fad, has police worried because of addictive nature of the drug if it is accidentally ingested by a child. Crystal meth, like crack cocaine, can enter the body by several vectors and through various orifices.
Many people use meth to induce rapid weight-loss but the user reaches a plateau and has to depend on the product for maintenance. It’s a double-edged sword due to the highly-addictive characteristics of the substance. It’s for this reason that doctors do not prescribe it to slim down. Still, a large amount of people use it to get high.
The California meth trick-or-treating discovery came on the heels of another incident in Washington, north of the San Francisco Bay Area Halloween report, according to NBC coverage. This one involved a mother and boy in Spokane who found nails inside several pieces of candy as if they were deliberately placed there.
Police in Hercules have no leads in its case. However, the person responsible for putting meth inside the girl’s trick-or-treating bag could possibly face felony drug charges. Authorities ask that if you have any information about this case to call them or Crime Stoppers USA.
