‘Evolve’ Big Alpha Hits PlayStation 4, Time Extended For Xbox One And PC

2K Games was forced to delay the Evolve Big Alpha for the PlayStation 4 due to issues with the recently released firmware 2.0 for the console. Those issues were straightened out over the weekend so the game is now available. Additionally, Xbox One and PC players received some extra time to spend testing the four versus one shooter.

While 2K Games and developer Turtle Rock Studios believe that enough problems have been solved to get Evolve to run on the PlayStation 4, not all of them have been solved. You should expect issues anyways due to this being an alpha test. They’ve already tweeted out a couple of issues that are being investigated.

My time spent with the game on the Xbox One included extremely slow matchmaking and loading times plus a weird glitch where my monster completely disappeared. However, 2K Games is warning that matches may not be completed sometimes.

Evolve (PS4, Xbox One, PC)

The Evolve alpha test will run now run through Tuesday, November 4 until 3 p.m. ET / 12 p.m. PT for those on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. If you already own XCOM: Enemy Unknown on Steam, you also gain immediate access to the Evolve Big Alpha.

Here is the text of the email that 2K Games sent to announcing that the Evolve Big Alpha is now available for the PlayStation 4.

“After exploring all available solutions, we believe we have addressed the majority of known issues affecting the Evolve Big Alpha on PlayStation 4 following the PS4 2.0 firmware update. The alpha test is now live on PS4 after a gradual roll out to registered participants. Evolve’s closed alpha test is also being extended on Xbox One, PC and PS4 through Tuesday, November 4 at 12:00 PM PST (8:00 PM UTC).

Alpha tests analyze and troubleshoot unfinished products. While internal testing shows the majority of PS4 matches are completed successfully, some players will encounter interruptions and issues affecting the Evolve experience. We ask for your patience and participation as we rigorously test Evolve to ensure a successful launch on February 10, 2015.

We thank everyone helping us test Evolve. Your participation in the Evolve Big Alpha plays a critical role in allowing us to develop the best possible gaming experience.”
