Rihanna Back On Instagram — Did Chelsea Handler’s Topless Campaign Work?

Days after Chelsea Handler made headlines for posting a picture of her horseback riding topless, fellow Instactivist Rihanna has re-appeared on the social media site.

Rihanna’s account was rumored to have been deactivated back in May after she posted bare-breasted photos of herself from a fashion shoot in French magazine Lui. When Rihanna balked at removing the images, some say Instagram pulled her whole account down on top of her — though neither side ever confirmed exactly who was responsible for the sudden death of Rihanna’s Instagram.

Instagram itself doesn’t seem to have any hard feelings, though. Upon the re-opening of Rihanna’s account, the company posted a tweet acknowledging how happy they were to have the star back on the site.

So what exactly have fans of Rihanna been missing in the last six months of a Rihanna-less Instagram? The public maybe never quite really know. In the meantime, Rihanna’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Halloween costume made up a string of her first posts.

As previously stated, the re-appearance of Rihanna’s Instagram is especially interesting in light of Chelsea Handler’s recent removal of her own account. Chelsea posted a picture of her riding a horse without a shirt on right next to a photo of Vladimir Putin, who was also not wearing a shirt in the photo. Her first version of the photo featured a tagline that clearly called out the double standard for topless photos of men and women.

“Anything a man can do, a woman has the right to do better. #kremlin”

Instagram immediately took down the photo, much like in Rihanna’s case when she posted the topless picture earlier this year. Handler, widely known for being outspoken, had some choice words for the website when they dropped her picture.

“If a man posts a photo of his nipples, it’s ok, but not a woman? Are we in 1825?”

It appears Chelsea had even more bite in her than Rihanna. She put the photo back up again, this time with a caption that defied Instagram to take down the shot for a second time.

“If Instagram takes this down again, you’re saying Vladimir Putin Has more 1st amendment rights than [me].”

Instagram, of course, once again took down the picture, which inspired Handler to delete her account, though she may be back in a few months like Rihanna.

“You can now find my dogs and my breasts on Twitter only where my followers have the right to choose what they say. Bye bye Instablock.”

Do you think Instagram had anything to do with Rihanna’s disappearance?
