Weight Loss: Is Al Sharpton Too Skinny Or Anorexic At 5 Feet, 10 Inches Tall And 129 Pounds?

When Justin “Rocket” Silverman of the Daily News recently profiled the 176-pound weight loss of the Rev. Al Sharpton, whose weight has dropped from an all-time high of 305 pounds down to 129 pounds, as shown in the above video, concerned tongues began wagging.

“I get up in the morning and have two or three slices of whole wheat toast,” Sharpton told viewers, the kind of folks typically interested in weight loss stories.

“I do about 20 minutes on the treadmill,” Sharpton continued, revealing more about his exercise and eating routine that led to such a dramatic weight loss. While viewers applauded Sharpton’s successful weight loss schedule, whereby getting up early in the morning and working out has helped him keep his weight off for years, others were a bit taken aback by the amount of loss.

For the 60-year-old to stand 5? 10? tall and weigh only 129 pounds — a weight loss corroborated by People — it seems Sharpton is at the absolute low end of the healthy weight loss chart for his height, according to Livestrong, which says that any additional weight loss would classify a man at that height as underweight and in jeopardy for experiencing other health issues.

Sharpton, however, claims his weight loss is only beneficial. “I feel great, more energetic,” he said.

“When people come up to you and say, ‘Reverend, you don’t look well, you look too skinny,'” Silverman questioned Sharpton, hinting at weight loss extremes.

“You should’ve been more worried about me when I was obese,” Sharpton said. Next, he recalled an incident in 1991, when he was stabbed and almost killed in Bensonhurst. The extra weight may have saved his life.

“That’s not a good reason to be fat. If I were stabbed now, I would be more injured than then. What helped save me was that he had too much fat to go through,” Sharpton said, encouraging others to adopt his healthier ways of eating if they too want to experience weight loss that remains for years.

“Salad, baby, salad,” Justin said. “It works,” Sharpton replied.

As reported by the Inquisitr, Sharpton’s real weight loss efforts began after some good-natured teasing by his daughter, which hurt his feelings but sent him on a weight loss journey that continues to this day, using primarily a plant-based, raw food diet with one main lunchtime meal and a small breakfast.

Therefore, while Sharpton is applauded for achieving an effective weight loss by altering his eating habits, many hope he doesn’t take the weight loss too far.
