‘Little Things’: Here’s Who Deserves The Credit For This One Direction Hit

One Direction’s hit song, “Little Things.”

Millions of One Direction’s fans around the world strongly believe that “Little Things” was one of the best songs featured on the group’s 2012 studio album, Take Me Home.

Over the weekend, “Little Things” has even been honored in the world of social media in celebration of its two-year anniversary with the viral hashtag #2YearsOfLittleThings.

Even the music video for “Little Things” was extremely popular, generating close to 180 million views on YouTube in the past two years.

However, what many One Direction fans and even critics still do not know about this song is that One Direction was not the first people to sing it. It might be nice to hear the voices of the guys from One Direction sing the beautiful lyrics of “Little Things” over the nice melody being played on the acoustic guitar.

However, One Direction cannot take the credit for being the first popular artists to sing those words and play that melody.

According to Digital Spy, that credit actually belongs to none other than singer/songwriter Ed Sheeran. In a radio interview with Capital FM, Ed Sheeran had the chance to reveal to the world the history of “Little Things” — which occurred long before One Direction even existed as a group.

“The great thing about it is I wrote that song with a girl called Fiona Bevan when I was 17 and we lost the song.”

Fortunately, Ed Sheeran stated that he was eventually reminded of the song “Little Things” years later by none other than his writing partner: Fiona.

“I’ve kept in touch with Fiona, we’ve done gigs and stuff and about two months ago she sent me the tune and was like, ‘Oh, do you remember this?’ I was like, ‘Yeah, I do remember that’.”

To enjoy the overall nostalgia of his long lost song, Ed Sheeran decided to play it in the studio when he was recording with One Direction. According to Ed Sheeran, the guys had a very good reaction to what they heard.

“I was in the studio with the One Direction boys at the time and I was playing it and they were like, ‘We really like that’.”

And the rest, as they say, is history!

Even though Ed Sheeran has been able to achieve a lot of commercial success for himself with his music over the years, he is primarily known as an impressive songwriter who has written hits for such people as Taylor Swift.

However, one of the most noteworthy comments that Ed Sheeran made about the One Direction hit song “Little Things” in the Capital FM interview was that Harry Styles ended up singing one of his “favorite lines that [he’s] ever written in a song.”

“It’s got one of my favorite lines that I’ve ever written in a song… Harry says, ‘I know you never like the sound of your voice on tape and you never like to know how much you weigh and you still have to squeeze into your jeans but you’re perfect to me’.”

Which is your favorite line from One Direction’s hit song, “Little Things?”

Can you believe that it’s been two years already since “Little Things” was released?
