‘Minecraft’ Halloween And Steam Punk Textures Come To Xbox, PlayStation Will Have To Wait [Update]

Two new Texture Packs landed in the Xbox Store Wednesday for Minecraft: Xbox One Edition and Xbox 360 Edition. One is free in celebration of Halloween while the other is slightly more expensive and gives the open-world sandbox title some Steampunk style.

Would you like your Endermen to show up as Slendermen instead? That’s just one of the results of downloading the free Halloween Texture Pack and enabling it in Minecraft on either of the Xbox consoles. You’ll also see even spookier Ghasts, Zombies, Creepers, and more.

Technically, the Halloween Texture Pack is a re-release. 4J Studios released it for Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition for free in 2013 for a limited time. Don’t expect this texture pack to hang around for long this year either, though an end date hasn’t been set yet. A Steampunk Texture Pack has also arrived. Plopping down a buck for the pack puts a Victorian spin on Minecraft with cool new looks for mobs (goggles everywhere, even on Creepers!). Blocks are altered as well, with plenty of gears, knobs, and pressure valves to decorate the landscape with.

Minecraft: PlayStation 4 Edition and PlayStation 3 Edition owners are rightly asking, “what about us?” Unfortunately, you will not get the Halloween Texture Pack in time for the holiday. According to 4J Studios, it will come next week, “hopefully.” The Tuesday PlayStation Store update seems a likely candidate.

Similarly, the Steam Punk Texture will also see a later release date on PlayStation platforms. 4J Studios says it will be available in November, but isn’t specific on whether that means next week or four weeks from now.

There’s been no word on the Title Update 17 for Minecraft since the last teaser image showing horses, beacons, and more. Keep your fingers crossed that it will be released this year. Some of the new blocks coming with the update were also shown in a teaser image prior to that.

Update: The Halloween Pack made it out early for the PlayStation 3. It is available for free from the PlayStation Store now. It is not available for the PlayStation 4 yet.

What do you think of the new and re-released texture packs for Minecraft? Going to pick one up for your PlayStation Edition or Xbox Edition? Sound off in the comments below.
