‘Halo 2 Anniversary’ Launch Trailer Is Near Movie Quality For ‘The Master Chief Collection’

It was already known that the cut-scenes for Halo 2 Anniversary in The Master Chief Collection for Xbox One were being completely redone. However, most people expected it to look less cinematic than what Microsoft released Wednesday. It comes to close to movie level goodness.

Blur Studio is responsible for the creation of the Halo 2 Anniversary cinematics. The visual effects and animation company has worked on everything from the space scenes in James Cameron’s Avatar to trailers for the Batman: Arkham series and Star Wars: The Old Republic (via IMDB).

For Halo 2 Anniversary, Blur was tasked with taking the in-game cinematics of the original Xbox game and completely redoing them as CGI cinematics for The Master Chief Collection. This extra work paid off, too, as the work is equal to that of any CGI animated movie over the last few years.

Halo: The Master Chief Collection will launch on November 11 for the Xbox One. It includes remastered versions of Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, Halo 2 Anniversary, Halo 3, and Halo 4. Halo 2 received the complete overhaul treatment while the other three received a boost in resolution and lighting.

Additionally, The Master Chief Collection comes with the live-action Halo: Nightfall series that introduces Oni Agent Jameson Locke, who plays a pivotal role in Halo 5: Guardians. It also includes access to the Halo 5 multplayer beta that launches on December 29.

Microsoft is also throwing a celebration of sorts for the Master Chief with HaloFest starting on November 8. It begins with a tournament featuring some of the top eSports competitors from the golden days of Halo.

Meanwhile, November 10 will see the premiere of Episode 1 of Halo: Nightfall. You’ll also want to tune in to see the first glimpse of the Halo 5: Multiplayer beta ahead of the December release. 343 Industries has promised a return to the roots of the arena style combat.

All of HaloFest can be viewed on the official Xbox Twitch channel. Those interested in purchasing the game should be aware that the amount of content turned out to be too big for a single Blu-ray disk. It comes with a 20 GB download to gain full access to all of the multiplayer offerings, as 343 Industries explained.
