Penn State Rocked By Sex Scandal And Cover Up

Penn State administrators are being forced to deal with a big blow to their institutions image this week after a longtime member of their men’s football program was arrested on dozens of sexual abuse charges.

Former defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky was arrested on Saturday on charges of molesting eight boys and the Philadelphia Inquirer says the school’s athletic director and a vice president will turn themselves in on Monday on charges of perjury after they failed to report the known abuses to the proper authorities.

According to reports a grand jury is investigating 40 charges that spanned the coaches decades of service at the school including 20 allegations while he was working for Joe Paterno and the rest after he retired in 1999 while continuing to use Penn State for his work at Second Mile, a foundation for at-risk boys.

The state’s attorney general said of the situation:

“This is a case about a sexual predator who used his position within the university and community to repeatedly prey on young boys.”

Among the cover-ups include a grad student who caught Sandusky having sex with a 10-year-old boy in the Penn State lock room and a janitor who caught the former coach performing oral sex on a young boy also on school grounds.

According to reports the coach would shower his victims with presents to keep them silent.

Do you think Penn State should be held responsible for the actions of a long-time coach? I’m still confused as to how he was able to get young boys alone in the schools locker room.
