Boy Scouts Grow Beards For “Be One With the Wild” Campaign

Ever see a little boy with a full grown beard? The Boy Scouts “Be One With the Wild” campaign shows fresh faced scouts with scruffy facial hair.

The ads, which were created by the Atlanta office of the global ad firm Ogilvy & Mather, are attempting to attract more kids to the Boy Scouts with humor… creepiness? Or maybe the ads are just encouraging kids to grow beards and mustaches for Movember.

And since most Boy Scouts lack the ability to grow facial hair, a few photoshopped pictures will have to do.

The ads are kind of funny but they may also be a bit tasteless. The Boy Scouts have recently been accused of covering up the fact that a serial rapist was a scout leader.

A victim of Scout Leader Rick Turley said:

“Leaders were more interested in covering it up and doing damage control.”

So maybe dressing up Boy Scouts in little man costumes isn’t the best PR move for the group.

What do you think? Do you like the Boy Scouts “Be One With the Wild” ads? Is it all in good fun or a little insensitive?

I'm not sure what beards have to do with rape. The fact that people/you are connecting the two seems "a bit insensitive" to people with beards. This campaign certainly looks pretty stupid to me (as a fully grown adult), but I don't really see anything wrong with it. Maybe this appeals to boys, who are its target (these photos also look like Cub Scouts, which is for boys under 10, I think).

If I had a son, he'd look like this.
