How about revolutionizing the causes of slums instead

Poverty is an inescapable fact of our world regardless of where you live. True poverty is a socially debilitating disease that we turn our heads from as we wander the streets clutching our $4.00 cups of Starbucks. Plans after plans are suggested to combat this dark side of our society an yet we still have people forced to live in their cars or cardboard boxes with children wondering where their next meal or clean clothes are going to come from.

Regardless of the size of the city they are all plagued with eyesores of living called shantytowns. They are the last refuges of what people struggling to make it through each day as their dignity slides further down the soup kitchen line up. However these cardboard and tin eyesores people call home may soon be replaced with really cool ecologically correct homes. That is if a Swiss company by the name of The Wall AG has their way.

The company believes that their new pre-fabricated homes – made from a honeycomb patterned paper that is soaked in a resin – which they are calling the Universal World House will be able to provide low cost housing with about 387.5 square feet of space. The cost of the basic materials need for local people to build the actual houses is approximately $5,000.00

Now as cool as it might be to be able to provide such nice looking homes to some of the worlds most destitute who I am sure will have no problem coming up with the $5,000.00 but don’t you think that trying to find solutions to fix the root cause of this poverty that is a blight on our world might be the better idea?
