A 6 year old boy has died after debris flew into the grandstands at a monster truck show in Tacoma, Washington Friday night.

Debris from a truck doing doughnuts flew 30 to 50 feet (9-15m) over a safety barrier into the stands, taking out Sebastian Hizey, who was out on what was supposed to be a family-friendly outing to the truck rally, and another spectator who was injured.

To make matters worse, the show didn’t stop, continuing as the boy’s parents and other fans screamed for assistance. It took more than 10 minutes for medical assistance to arrive.

The producers of the show said they didn’t stop the performance because they didn’t want to have everyone leaving the arena at once, impeding the paramedics in getting the victims out of the arena.

The venue where the rally was being held has no high protection barriers for viewing safety, and shows on Saturday and Sunday went ahead.
