Funeral services are set for fashion designer Oscar de la Renta.

A private funeral mass for de la Renta will be held here November 3.

The mass will take place at 11 a.m. at the Church of St. Ignatius Loyola at Park Avenue and 84th Street, according to Women’s Wear Daily.

De la Renta passed away at his Kent, Connecticut home at age 82 after a prolonged battle with cancer. De la Renta was known as a charmer, mingling with high society, royalty, and celebrity with equal aplomb. His career began at Elizabeth Arden from the 1960’s and stretched into the 2010’s.

De la Renta was one of the last of his generation to put American designers on the global map. His business may not have grown as large as a few of his peers, but his reputation, his style, far outreached them.

Reuters is reporting the Dominican-born designer was surrounded by close family at the time of his death.

During his distinguished career, de la Renta was know for smart, sophisticated suits with fitted jackets, dresses in pastel colors and flowered prints that flattered the female form, and evening gowns that were elaborate and stunning.

Sarah Jessica Parker, Amy Adams, and Jennifer Lawrence favored his evening gown designs, gracing many a red carpet with his style.

He recently designed the lace, off-the-shoulder wedding gown for human rights lawyer Amal Alamuddin for her September wedding to actor George Clooney in Venice, Italy.

Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour is expected to join the many designers, fashionistas, and celebrities who will attend the funeral. Wintour also wrote a touching tribute to her close friend for her magazine.

The Dominican Republic ordered a Day of Mourning to honor de la Renta, where he maintained a home and did philanthropic work for children there. All Dominican Republic flags were flown at half-mast to honor de la Renta.

President Danilo Medina credited the designer for raising up the name of the Dominican Republic over the world.

De la Renta did suffer some personal tragedies. His first wife, Francoise, died of breast cancer. One year later, de la Renta was moved by a story of an abandonded infant being cared for by a de la Renta-supported orphanage in his home country. He adopted Moises later that year. In 1989, he married his second wife, Annette Reed. He is survived by Ms. Reed, Moises, and three stepchildren.
