‘Walking Dead’: Robert Kirkman Says Rick’s Not In A Coma, He’s Just Crazy
Is Robert Kirkman mocking one of the more outrageous Walking Dead fan theories? The creator of the comic series behind the show responded to speculation on Twitter Friday morning, dismissing one theory and offering a seemingly more far-fetched one to replace it.
Earlier this week, an UpRoxx article revealed that a number Walking Dead fans have debated the possibility that the whole series is just Rick Grimes’ coma dream. They say perhaps the one-time Georgia police officer is still lying in his hospital bed, and none of the events he’s experiencing actually happened — there was no zombie outbreak, his wife isn’t dead and never slept with his best friend, and the world is still turning normally.
Robert Kirkman responded to this rumor publicly on his Twitter account today.
Going on record to answer this: http://t.co/3lhUI6A3bW Rick is NOT still in a coma. The events of TWD are definitely happening.

Kirkman then went on to offer conspiracy-minded Walking Dead fans an even wilder theory, though:
But Carl and everyone else are all imagined. He actually NEVER found his family. He’s been crazy since he killed his first zombie. #joking?

Is he joking? Well, note that in the first tweet, Kirkman clearly says the events of The Walking Dead are “definitely happening.” That seems to rule out any remote possibility that he could be serious.
It hasn’t stopped a number of Walking Dead fans from responding with pleas for the creators not to engage that particular story line, though.
@RobertKirkman now that would be an interesting, and by interesting I mean heart breaking please don’t do that, plot twist.

Of course, the more current Walking Dead fan theory debate is about Bob. Readers of the Walking Dead comics have, of course, advance information, but even the show has hinted strongly at what can be expected from Bob’s storyline. After his rescue at the food bank, viewers were left wondering, but Bob’s limp out to the churchyard, where he encountered the remaining members of Terminus, left most Walking Dead fans with a pretty certain conclusion about whether the walkers in the basement managed to injure (and by extension, infect) him.
Left open to speculation is what exactly will become of Bob, and the eaters of his tainted meat (though again, comic readers have offered answers — no spoilers here, but they’re out there for the truly curious).
As for Robert Kirkman and his teasing tweets, it seems like a safe bet that The Walking Dead isn’t taking place in Rick’s mind, either as a coma dream or a post-apocalyptic hallucination.
