On the heels of the Kim Kardashian/Kris Humphries divorce comes news of another, hipper celeb split.
Manic pixie dream girl Zooey Deschanel- who is pretty much everywhere this year with a new show on Fox (“The New Girl”), the film Our Idiot Brother with Paul Rudd and Rashida Jones, a Christmas album with M. Ward as She & Him and a World Series performance singing “The Star Spangled Banner”- has some unfortunate news to cap off her spate of multi-genre work. 31-year-old Deschanel and hubby and Death Cab For Cutie and Postal Service singer Ben Gibbard, 35, are calling it quits after two years of marriage.
In happier days, Gibbard gushed about his luck in landing the hipster hottie. He said:
“I’d seen her movies and obviously I thought she was very beautiful… I was just awestruck that she was even talking to me.”
But the rigors of touring and mutual busy careers seems to have been a bit difficult for the couple to contend with. Of her marriage, Deschanel previously said:
Deschanel told iVillage that it was “definitely hard” being apart from her indie rocker guy when he was away on tour. “He’s really good at calling. He’s probably better than I am. He’s a very conscientious person… You can’t expect to make no effort. You still have to make the effort and be kind and understanding. It sort of just solidifies your commitment.”
According to a source that talked to Us Weekly, the split was “mutual and amicable,” and no “third party” was involved.
