Woman Finds A Gooey, Gelatinous ‘Alien’ In A Bottle Of Grocery Store Vinegar

A mother in Wales was rather alarmed indeed to find a gelatinous, gooey blob in her bottle of store-bought vinegar, and she is not at all pleased with the response she got from the manufacturer.

Wales Online reports that 29-year-old mother of two, Eleri Adkins, who is pregnant, found something that looked like it had a head growing in a jar of vinegar she’d bought at Tesco. According to her version of the story, Ms. Adkins bought the vinegar about a month ago and put it in the cupboard to be forgotten about. Then, when she sat down to have a meal of fish and chips with her family, she noticed the gelatinous blob – after her two kids had already eaten some chips (er, French fries) with the vinegar on them.

“I cannot believe it – there is something growing in my bottle of vinegar. It looks like it’s got a head.”

According to The Mirror, Eleri immediately took the vinegar – gelatinous being and all – back to Tesco, demanding answers.

“I would like to know what this thing is, we’ve eaten some of the vinegar.”

Ms. Eleri says the workers at Tesco were as disgusted by the gelatinous blob as she was.

“The staff in the store were heaving when they saw it. They did not know what it was.”

For her trouble, the staff at the local Tesco store gave Ms. Eleri a full refund and some flowers. But further up the chain at the Tesco company, the response she got wasn’t as helpful, according to Metro.

“I was asked ‘what do you want us to do about i?’ I’m disgusted at how I was spoken to.”

Tesco has promised an investigation.

The good news (or disappointing news, if you were hoping the gelatinous vinegar being turned out to be an alien) is that what Ms. Eleri found in her vinegar is not an alien or any sort of contaminant. It’s actually a naturally-occurring part of the vinegar manufacturing process, called “mother.” And though it looks and sounds rather disgusting – it is, after all, a living culture – it is not harmful, and the vinegar manufacturing process is supposed to filter it out, but some chunks of it apparently got through.

Far more disgusting things than manufacturing remnants have been found in food of late, including an alleged rat’s head found in the chili at a Golden Corral, according to this Inquisitr report.
