New Video Game Releases For The Week Of October 26, 2014
If you thought you were drowning last week, the amount of new video game releases this week will make you feel like you have finally succumbed to the Q4 deluge. Sony once again emerges as the winner in quantity of releases this week with a total of 16 new releases, as opposed to the eight for the Xbox platform. The Wii U is also getting a few new games, and even the old Nintendo DS is seeing what is probably its last release with Big Hero 6.
The most anticipate new video game release for the week is arguably Sunset Overdrive from Insomniac Games. Insomniac is known to most gamers for their work on the PlayStation platform, particularly for the Ratchet & Clank franchise, which was part of the trio of action platformer games in the PlayStation 2 era that also included Sly Cooper from Sucker Punch and Jak & Daxter from Naughty Dog. Sunset Overdrive is already being called the game that makes the next-gen feel like it has well and truly arrived, much in the same way Gears of War or Crackdown did for the Xbox 360.
The open world action platformer sets the player in a world where an energy drink has turned the population into mutants, and it is up to the gamer to battle the mutants with Insomniac’s trademark crazy weapons and smooth acrobatic jumping and shooting. Sunset Overdrive releases on October 28 exclusively for the Xbox One.
Nintendo gamers will also be receiving a good showing of indie titles, as Cosmophony, Pixel Paint, and Stealth Inc. 2 make their Wii U debuts.
