Bond 23: Albert Finney Joins Bond Cast

A few months ago, James Bond fans weren’t sure that Bond 23 would ever get made. MGM nearly scrapped the film due to financial reasons, but now the latest Bond movie looks stronger than ever. Javier Bardem has already been cast to play the new villain, and now the film is getting even more star power with the casting of Albert Finney.
Finney, who has been nominated for five Oscars, will play the superior to James Bond’s boss M (played by Judi Dench.) BondMovies reports that M is usually the authoritative figure in the Bond movies, so the introduction of Finney probably means that she can’t handle the level of danger in Bond 23. Is the Quantum Organization that dangerous? Does Bond go rogue? Will Finney call in more OO agents to help James Bond in the new film?
There isn’t much known about the plot of the new Bond film, but one thing’s for sure, Finney should feel right at home filming the spy caper. Finney played a major part in the third installment of the Jason Bourne series and is currently reprising the role for “Bourne Legacy.”
Daniel Craig, Judi Dench, Javier Bardem, Ralph Fiennes, and Albert Finney… Bond 23 has the potential to be a classic James Bond movie. Bond 23, which is tentatively titled, “Skyfall” will be released in November 0f 2012.
Do you think Albert Finney is a good addition to the Bond 23 cast?

This will be the best Bond film in the franchise.

Hell yes I'm love the bond style films. I hope it does not stop with just 23.

Finney is an award winning actor and can be always counted on to give a First rate performance. All the time. The big problem is daniel craig, by far, the absolute WORST bond ever. Cast believe the casting people got this so wrong. They are awful and should be fired.

Evon should do his homework. "M'"s boss has been cast in several of the earlier Bond films, going all the way back to "Goldfinger". The "Boss" is the Minister of Defense, or just Minister. Also cast in "For Your Eyes Only" was the ultimate Boss, the Prime Minister. As for the addition of Mr. Finney, Bravo! I hope they write his part large enough to add to the franchise. He's a wonderfully gifted actor.

to the people that think Craig is the worst Bond ever. I would argue that dalton or even George Lazenby were the absolute worst bond's ever. Craig isn't that bad at all. I admit when I first heard Craig was going to be bond in the other 2 movies, I had my doubts. but was surprised that he actually did a fine job as bond….as to Finney joining the cast of the newest bond, I applaud it, he is a very good actor…Im just happy they are actually going to make the movie in the first place

He is the best bond since Connery. Keep in mind they arte trying to bring it back to the original conception. Roger Moore was too feminine. I did like his comical take on it. The other ones were not impressive.

Daniel Craig is one of the best Bonds. Of course, nobody can ever come even close to Sean Connery but hey they can establish their own identity as another 007. The name has to be just 'Bond' not Connery, Sean Connery!

Craig is the best Bond since Connery. The Bond character in the books, is basically a sociopath who happens to work for the good guys. The other actors tried to play him as too sensitive, trying to go for feminine fans.

Daniel Craig is easily the Best Bond of all time. He's way more bad ass and way more brutal and tough than any of the people that came before him.
Nov 1, 2011
Quality Bond films didn't start until Craig joined the cast. Admit it people, he's the total package when it comes to James Bond.

I just knew that Daniel Craig would be able to handle the role of JB without any trouble at all. What surprises me the most about casting Albert Finney is why it took so long to have him in a Bond movie. Perhaps sometime in the near future TPTB can cast Ewan McGregor for a plum role.

craig is not the best bond since connery. craig much like christian bale has the charisma of spam, while the only thing ive liked that craig is done is when he played a crazy in the jacket. bond is really nothing without the john barry score wich made moore and especialy connery's bond's cool and terrific and until they bring bary's scoring back in full the bond franchise will continue to suck. they might as well just have a different hero movie if your going to change bond that radicaly and just pimp off the bond name. terminator wife stealing bond sucks. watching bale and craig play hero's is like watching billy zane in the phantom. zane made a great rich snide bad guy like bale in american psycho. terrible hero charisma. I'd take the worst dalton film over any craig fiasco. stop messing up the films of my cherished youth reboot fanboys.

brosnan's bond would have been terrific had they not watered down then dropped the john barry terrific cool bond music. music is 89% of a franchise. most of these franchises wouldn't suck or need to be rebooted had they not dropped music scores. *cough superman dropping john williams score and watering it down after 2, terminator dropping fidels score, star trek dropping goldsmith/horners score after 4 etc. cough*.

The challenge is not that Craig is a decent actor or not, but whether this is the Bond we like or not. Do we want a sullen, angry, violent Bond, or do we want a suave, sophisticated Bond. They are totally different animals. To people raised in a culture where the hero winds by being aggressive, he is great. To a people used to Bond winning by being clever, he is less great. The book Bond was a different animal as well. He had some issues but loved his service and cared for M. He was damaged goods, but hardly a sociopath. I am not sure an old school Bond would play as well these days, but I miss him, regardless.

although everyone is entitled to there own opinion, it sounds like you are more of a movie music fan than you are a movie fan. The only music anyone remembers from any bond movie (for me anyway) is the music, as you mentioned, by John barry. Does it really matter if it sounds exactly the same as it did in Dr. No? to me as long as it sounds the same who care who does it. You are just being too picky in my opinion, as for Craig being Bond..is he the best? no he isn't, but you can not sit here and tell me dalton or George Lazenby were better than craig, that is just laughable. In my order it would be Connery, moore,Brosnan, craig, then a fight between dalton and Lazenby for being the worst, with dalton winning narrowly as being the ultimate worst bond ever….but like I said, you are entitled to your opinion and you did make good points

Tim,thy Dalton is the worst bond.

Rick Uyhelyi not true, music makes a movie, im also guessing your 18-24. behind every great film is a terrific score, especialy series. jaws for instance would be nothing without its score. dalton at least acts like a hero and smiles. that you would think that a hero would make comments like being glee about seducing married women as in casino royal is beyond me. also craig does not sound british, the only english sounding person in craigs bond is M. At least dalton looked suave, the mistake they made with dalton was turning bond into tom clancy bond as patriot games etc. with harrison was doing great. are you serious rick. whats star wars without john williams music, raiders or superman without williams theme? take music out of a film you have nothing, music is 89% of a movie and just as important as a character in it.terminator wife stealing craig bond that craig has turned bond into is bland, unfun and boring. music helps people emotionaly connect to films and cue's people. thiers nothing cooler about connery than hearing the john barry score with him suaving up in a casino saying "bond, james bond", connery, moore and brosnan at least could say bond, james bond correctly, something craig nor datlon or lazunbury could. at least dalton could fake being charming and not looked like he belonged pumping gas.

Rick Uyhelyi pacing and scoring (both working off eachother) are largely responsible for how great a movie is, music is the glue that holds that together especialy for a franchise series. terminator has sucked since 3 from removing fidels score, et. i can go on. look at a dwindling sequel franchise you can spot where they have dropped music from it. mgm generaly doesnt have my like for craigs bond since stealing quinton tarantino's reboot with brosnan anyway and doing it with craig as casino royal was tarantino's idea. bond is bland and unfun, it needs a rest much like batman wich has had 5 actors in 10 years. it will never be what it was without the cool barry score, thats a large part of what was cool about the bond movies. forget 250 million on visual effects studios need to bring in people that can properly pace and score films.end of rant.

Alan Funkle your guess is wrong im 44, and have seen more movies and own more movies then most likely you. I have seen silent movies, musicals from the 30's, 40's and 50's, you name it i've most likely seen it You took my comment completely wrong. I Totally agree with you about the music being a part of the movie that, when done well, moves the movie along. But what i was trying to relate to you was that if you poll the common movie goer coming out of a new movie and ask them what they thought of the music, who wrote the score and so on…I bet 99% of them wouldnt be able to tell one thing about the music in the movie that they just saw…..now on to Bond, yet again, Daltons bond was waaaaay too serious, you say he smiled?? I think he smiled one time right before the credits started rolling. and about craig I said he isnt the best bond, about the 4th best but you saying that he isnt english??…a direct quote from his bio…."Daniel Wroughton Craig, (born 2 March 1968) is an English actor"….he sounded English to me.More English than dalton did anyway. Did I read you right when you said casino royal was tarantino's idea???? Casino Royale is Ian Fleming's first James Bond novel, I hope you read at least one of Ian flemings books. You are right about the batman thing. the other batman's seemed liked they were based on the TV show and not the comic. But in the end, I guess we agree to disagree about the actors who played bond so far

Daniel Craig is the best Bond ever, second to Connery. I was bored with Bond until Casino Royale a few years back. Bond had become comical. I like the more serious edge. Sam Mendes is a great hire. So is Bardem and Finney. I haven't heard what Fiennes is being cast as. I'm looking forward to this movie more than any Bond movie in a long while. Good cast, good director is creating good buzz for me. Now all we need is a sexy new Bond girl. Can't wait to hear who she is.

Funny how we're all different isn't it. I've loved all of the previous Bond films with the exception of the Dalton / Lazenby incarnations which just never felt right for me. Personally, I think Craig makes an excellent Bond, the best for a long time. I don't decry the original format of the early Bond films; the humour, sensitivity, and 'cleverness' of the earlier Bonds was ideal for the day and will always be loved. I (personally) however don't think it would work well with today's audiences who are a lot more sophisticated and informed. Whether we like it or not, films such as Bourne have set the benchmark for such genres and today's viewers have come to expect it. The production companies have to 'give the (majority of) punters' what they want to see if they (the production companies) want to make money, so the current format of Bond is, I feel, sadly or otherwise, here to stay. Enjoy and remember what has been before, but embrace the changes life brings us. No one is immune to the passage of time…even Bond! lol
