Mentally Ill Man Brings Hatchet Into High School, Says ‘It Seemed Like A Good Idea’

Kirk Beckwith Cowart, 25, sneaked inside of a Virginia high school on Thursday with a hatchet, according to a report confirmed by WTKR NewsChannel 3.

Several employees at Salem High found Cowart sitting on the stage of the school’s auditorium. According to police, he more than likely entered the building at around 5:45 a.m. during an early morning delivery.

After Kirk Cowart was arrested, an interview was conducted at the jailhouse in order to determine his line of reasoning and the motives for his actions.

In his expletive-filled statement, Coward said he wanted “to do something for all the children” who were “sold into sex slavery.”

“I wanted to do something for all the children that have ever been sold into sex slavery and get out on a stage with a mother-f***ing ax and a f***ing toothpick of a f***ing knife, my katana, and just lay everything down.”

According to WTKR reporter Marissa Jasek, Cowart’s father stated that his son “lives in an imaginary world” and “suffered from mental illness.”

That type of medical history could explain Cowart’s response when Marissa Jasek asked him to explain why he brought a hatchet into the school. According to Jasek, Kirk Cowart gave “one of the most bizarre” answers that she has ever heard.

“When I walked out… there is a dirty little secret, and it’s a dirty little name and it’s a dirty little trick… that goes ’round here, that I, myself, come to you in bondage.”

During the interview, Cowart explained his own conspiracy theory about the “stock and trade” market within the state of Virginia, which offers “virgins” instead of “tobacky.” He also responded to the question of whether he intended to hurt anyone with the hatchet.

“What did you think the Commonwealth of Virginia’s main stock and trade was? Tobacky? That comes from North Cackalacky. But from VIRGIN-ia, we breed virgins to be bought and sold. I actually left my house because when I left, I was waiting, I was talking to the Lord, and I heard a gun battle and I heard screams and people dying, but I did not hear the sickening sounds because I knew there were the bad ones who died.”

In an interview with reporter Jason Marks of WAVY-TV 10, Kirk Cowart admitted that he is bi-polar. When asked by Marks about why he brought a hatchet into the school, Cowart simply responded with a question.

“Shouldn’t a boy always be able to walk around in Virginia with his tomahawk?”

Kirk Cowart was charged with trespassing on school property, possession of a weapon on school property, and disorderly conduct. He is currently being held in a Virginia Beach jail without bond.
