New Video Game Releases For The Week Of October 19, 2014

The new video game releases for the week of October 19, 2014 are here, and the notable releases this week are not on the platforms you would probably expect. Instead of the PlayStation 4 juggernaut and the Xbox One leading the pack, the Wii U and the PC are leading the charge with some of the most anticipated games of the season. We look at two of the notable releases for the week below, if the previous week’s list didn’t already empty your coffers.

Sporting a new hair cut and platform to boot, Bayonetta 2 is arguably the biggest action game amongst the other new video game releases this week. Developed as a Wii U exclusive, the Platinum Games-developed third-person action game is the sequel to the original Bayonetta, released on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The stylish combo-driven game play is the evolution of Hideki Kamiya’s last action game, Devil May Cry. In Bayonetta 2, players control the witch of the same namesake as the title, who uses guns in her high heels and hands as well as magic attacks while destroying her angelic and demonic enemies. Bayonetta 2 now features a two-player mode as well as the original Bayonetta ported for the Wii U by Bee Tribe. Bayonetta 2 is available as a retail and eShop purchase and both versions include the original Bayonetta as a bonus.

PC Gamers are also getting something new this week amongst the other new video games with Civilization: Beyond Earth. The 4x game (explore, expand, exploit, and exterminate) is being billed as a spiritual successor to Alpha Centaruri, as the development team from the 1999 game have carried over to the new game. Based on a hexagonal grid similar to Civilization V, the game will also include the ideas of the cities, city-based progression, leaders, and so on, all of which are central to the Civilization formula. Rather than pick a historical leader to helm their new world, players will make decisions such as which organization backed the expedition, which vessel is used to reach the new world, and who and what they brought with them. Civilization: Beyond Earth releases for Windows, Mac and Linux.
