Etsy Vagina Pendant: Just In Time For The Holidays

An Etsy shop is offering an array of realistic vagina pendants, an item that is sure to please your family and/or friends this holiday season.

If you know someone with a great sense of humor and an appreciation for art, consider purchasing the aforementioned bauble from The Typsy Gypsies, a vendor Etsy with an eye for trinkets and doodads inspired by the human body. Unhappy with the colors featured in one vagina pendant? Keep digging — there are plenty up for grabs.

Although the piece isn’t the strangest thing you’re likely to stumble across on Etsy these days, it was definitely odd enough to catch the attention of a few major websites. The folks over at Bustle were among the first to pick it up, and their reaction to the Etsy vagina pendant was as amusing as you might imagine.

“While I appreciate the attempt to embrace female anatomy, I just can’t get down with the idea of wearing a genitals as jewelry. I like my accessories to be a little less political and a lot less graphic. That said, if you are participating in a production of The Vagina Monologues soon, I can’t think of a better piece of adornment. Maybe instead of wearing these pendants, we should just start carrying them around as a sort of talisman.”

Styleit writer Ashley Hoffman also stumbled across the unique Etsy offering. However, unlike the folks at Bustle, she seemed to understand what The Typsy Gypsies was attempting to accomplish with the pendant. Instead of going for shock and awe, the talented craftspeople were aiming at something a bit more high-brow and artistic.

“Statement necklaces and feminist statements are normally quite different, but this coral pink vagina necklace for $15 at Etsy really does it all. For starters, it’s too pretty to be shocking. The pendant looks like a seashell that whispers you mermaid secrets, and it’s the most convincing way to cure your penis envy.”

Not surprisingly, this unusual jewelry isn’t the only stuff people have found on Etsy modeled after parts of the female body. According to Weird Things on Etsy, vendors have also offered vagina-shaped earplugs and a pin cushion designed to look like a uterus. A zombie uterus, at that. The possibilities, as they say, are endless.
