Matt Barnes and Gloria Govan Call it Quits

Matt Barnes and Gloria Govan have broken up. The LA Laker and his ex-fiance, who starred on VH1′s “Basketball Wives,” seem to have ended on good terms.

The Hollywood Gossip reports that Barnes and Govan called off their engagement last year, but it wasn’t until yesterday that they officially confirmed the split.

Barnes sent out an email saying:

“I’d like to address rumors surrounding mine and Gloria’s relationship. We’ve reached the difficult decision of ending our relationship and will be going our separate ways. We will work together to raise our sons and wish each other only the best.”

Govan echoed Barnes’ sentiments in a tweet:

“I’m sure you guys are hearing a ton of buzz about Matt and Me breaking up, sorry to say… its true!!!!!! But the most important thing is focusing on my kids and continuing to have a good relationship with their father, thanks for your support!!!”

But judging by another one of Govan’s tweet, the breakup wasn’t exactly mutual. Apparently Barnes decided to leave, and Govan, well, she wasn’t going to beg for him to stay.

Govan tweeted:

“If someone is dumb enough to walk away, be smart enough to let them go. Your destiny is never tied to anyone who leaves you.”

In other Barnes news, the Laker told the LA Times that he is one of few players that is benefiting from the NBA lockout. Barnes, who injured his knee last season, said that he’s back to about 90%.

Barnes said:

“I can still tell I’m not all the way back because when I go to the basket, I have to time myself to dunk. Before, it was just an afterthought. I’m pretty close. It’s probably another couple of weeks before I’m attacking the basket like I used to.”
