Halloween Costumes Go Creepy-Cool Using A Free Mobile App [Video]

This year Halloween costumes have gone high tech – and super creepy – with beating hearts, throbbing brains, and creepy, blood-shot eyes that roll around in their sockets. All it takes is a smartphone and a free app developed by Mark Rober.

According to Tech Times, Rober’s company, Digital Dudz, first gained attention in 2011 when he used two iPads inserted under a ripped shirt to create the illusion of having a hole in his chest.

A former NASA engineer, Rober left his job to devote his time to developing wearable technology.

“Nothing is as cool as building spaceships,” he said. “But there is something satisfying with getting an email from a customer that says ‘I’ve never given as many high fives as I did last night wearing your shirt’.”

He later merged his company with the one that makes Morphsuits – another popular Halloween costume.

This year, Rober has taken it up a notch by introducing a line of masks and Halloween-themed tee-shirts with specially designed secret compartments that will hold mobile devices running his creepy app.

The secret pockets are secured with velcro and will accomodate Android and Apple devices — including the new iPhone 6.

“You can control the animations using the Apple headphones concealed in your pocket. So, people will go into a room, for example, with a shirt of a picture of a Zombie and his eyes aren’t moving … but then the eyes start frantically looking around the room. Then you stop them and everyone just thinks they’ve gone crazy.”

“So that means you show up at a party and blow people’s minds with just jeans and a T-shirt. But on a moment’s notice, you are gonna be able to nail that selfie,” Rober says, removing a phone from his tee-shirt to take a photo.

According to WXYZ, the shirts and masks run between $45 and $60 at their website, but you don’t have to buy one to get in on the creepy fun — you can still download the free software from Apple or Android app stores and make your own Halloween costume.

Either way, you are sure to have people wondering how in the world you did it.
