Stephen Hawking Is A ‘Fool’, Says Creationist Ray Comfort

Renowned Cambridge cosmologist Stephen Hawking has been called a “fool” by notorious creationist Ray Comfort. Despite the scientist’s groundbreaking achievements in physics and science in general, the New Zealander minister says Stephen’s continued disagreement with the Bible and his pronouncement of atheism makes him a “fool.”

The scientist and author of A Brief History Of Time has described himself as an atheist multiple times in the past. In an interview with Spanish-language newspaper El Mundo, Hawking says he didn’t believe in God because science provided more satisfying explanations for the origin of the universe than any kind of existing religion.

Hawking’s declaration prompted Comfort to respond. In his YouTube channel The Comfort Zone, the minister said that Stephen has committed “intellectual suicide” by declaring his disbelief in God and denying his role in the formation of the universe.

“You know, if we disagree with the Bible, when someone says, ‘I’m an atheist,’ they’re saying, ‘I’m a fool’. They’re saying nothing created everything, which is just ludicrous intellectual suicide. The Bible says he who denies God’s existence is a fool, and if we say the guy is intelligent, then we are denying what scripture said.”

Comfort further discussed his criticism of Stephen Hawking’s intellectual leaning by adding an analogy to demonstrate his disagreement with Hawking’s atheism.

“It’s like someone who sits in a 747 [airplane] and says I believe this happened when nothing exploded and everything fell into place. Everything, the wings, all fell into place without a designer. That is ludicrous.”

According to Raw Story, Ray Comfort is most popularly known for the “banana argument,” an attempt to counter Darwinian evolution by describing the “perfect” design of the modern banana, saying that the shape and color of the fruit was obviously designed to suit human consumption. However, the argument was easily debunked when critics pointed out that the modern banana was a product of decades of artificial selection.

Stephen Hawking has been trained in Oxford, Cambridge and California Institute of Technology in the United States. Hawking has received countless prestigious awards, including the Albert Einstein Award, the Fundamental Physics Prize and the coveted Presidential Medal of Freedom, which was awarded to him by President Obama in 2012.

Comfort, on the other hand, did not attend college and has been riddled with numerous controversies over the past few years. One major example was his distribution of altered copies of Charles Darwin’s The Origin of Species, which removed fundamental chapters on evolutionary evidences and added creationist arguments against the theory in their foreword.

Stephen Hawking will be portrayed in an upcoming film entitled The Theory of Everything, starring Eddie Redmayne as the physicist and Felicity Jones as his first wife, Jane Hawking.
