Zooey Deschanel Sings the National Anthem [Video]

Before game four of the World Series, Zooey Deschanel stepped up to the plate to sing the National Anthem. The “New Girl” star walked out onto the field in a red, white, and blue mini dress and gave a performance that some are applauding, while others weren’t so impressed.

What did you think of Zooey Deschanel’s performance?

Her detractors are saying that Zooey’s rendition of the Star Spangled Banner didn’t have the flare that the World Series deserves. Zooey didn’t use an orchestra, or a back up band, and she didn’t add a thousand extra notes to demonstrate her vocal prowess. She just sang the song.

She didn’t screw up any of the lyrics, like, according to the Washington Post,  Cyndi Lauper, Christina Aguliera, and game one singer Scotty McCreery did.

But for all her detractors, there are still plenty of people who were impressed by Zooey Deschanel’s singing.

Actor Nick Kroll tweeted:

“You just sang the [expletive] out of the national anthem.”

But Zooey is getting universally criticized for what she did after the anthem. She left.

Zooey said on Twitter:

“Would have loved to have watched the whole game but I had to catch a plane so I can go to work tomorrow… That’s all guys. I’m not a jerk.”
