‘The Walking Dead’ Premiere: Watch The First Four Minutes Of Season 5 [Video]

A Walking Dead Season 5 “appetizer.”

AMC has just released the first four minutes of the Season 5 premiere episode, and it’s pretty intense as you would expect [spoiler] starting with a flashback of Gareth and others trapped in a railroad car with presumably zombies swarming on the outside.

You’ll remember that Season 4 ended with Rick Grimes and his reunited crew imprisoned in perhaps the same railroad car at Terminus. Much speculation has consumed, so to speak, the internet that Terminus is a cannibal hangout, and later in the first four minutes suggests that this might be accurate. See embed below.

As an aside, wouldn’t it have been a better idea for Rick and his wingmen and women to carefully scope out Terminus for a couple of days before going in?

That plot element notwithstanding, The Walking Dead Season 4 finale on March 30 drew about 15.7 million viewers, a huge number in the fragmented TV universe, but somewhat less than the 16.1 million that watched the season premiere in October.

In case you tuned in late — or not at all — to the most popular cable television show in America, The Walking Dead, is based on a series of graphic novels by Robert Kirkman and follows a small group of survivors who are led by Georgia Sheriff Grimes (British actor Andrew Lincoln) in a quest to try to find a safe haven far away from virulent zombie-cannibal “walkers.” Some of the humans that the good guys encounter along the way — such as Gareth and his Terminus teammates — are also equally dangerous as the reanimated flesh-eaters. In the context of the series, the “walking dead” may also describe the humans who are all infected with the virus in its dormant stage and who “turn” upon dying unless they are stabbed or shot in the brain.

At New York Comic Con today, Kirkman explained that the TV series in Season 5 will be more faithful to the comic. “There are a lot of big moments from the comic book series that will pulled into the show this season,” he said. Cast members in attendance described the new episodes as brutal, violent, and bloody, which suggests among other things that one or more series regulars — as in past seasons — will meet their demise. Before realizing that he wasn’t supposed to cough up any spoilers, Lincoln added that he loved playing his character this time around because he gets to do a lot of killing. In that context, Lincoln admitted that “Shane was onto something.”

The Walking Dead Season 5 premieres on AMC tomorrow night, October 12, at 9 p.m. Eastern.
