Bulldog Puppy Howl Is Cute, Yes, But Is It Inhumane?

A bulldog puppy howl is about the cutest thing I’ve ever seen. In a moment, I’ll prove it to you by showing you The Pet Collective video that is now sweeping the web.

While watching most any tiny animal take its first crack at life is a wonderful thing, it’s not always the most humane.

That’s at least the point some commenters at the Huffington Post tried to make when what you’re about to see exploded on social media and did more than 58,000 likes/12,000 shares on Facebook.

“He can’t breathe!!!!” wrote one commenter. “His howl is all chocked [sic] up because of his tiny squished face!! I wish people would stop breeding bulldogs.. They’re adorable, but honestly they are just one big genetic disaster!”

This was not a school of thought that went without affirmation.

“I agree,” said a second commenter. “My father had a bulldog that he adored but after the dog died he campaigned to have the breed go extinct because they are so misshapen that it amounts to cruelty to animals for human vanity.”

There have also been rumors that the AKC will no longer let the bulldog breeds compete until a longer snout could be bred back in to them, noted another.

“So very sad and true,” agreed a fourth. “Pedigree dog breeding has messed up health wise on a lot of pure bred dogs. It’s really terrible what they’ve done to the English Bulldog. If you look at a skull from an English Bulldog from like 1920, and compare it to a skull of an English bulldog today it’s awful. Their teeth don’t meet, they have a very hard time breathing, because they hardly have a nasal passage. Most breeding has to be done artificially. Most English Bulldog births have to be delivered C-section, because the pelvis is too narrow for the puppies to pass through the birth canal. And their life spans are cut short due to genetic health problems.”

While these are all very good points, it does not negate the fact that this bulldog puppy howl video is one of the cutest animal videos ever, especially when the little guy tries to make himself heard. But don’t take my word for it. See for yourself.

Whether or not his breed is cruel or misguided, this little guy is wonderful. But what do you think, readers?

Does the bulldog puppy howl video above make up for the bulldog genetic problems that exist as a result of their breeding? Share your thoughts in our comments section.
