‘Minecraft’ PS Vita Release Date Set For Europe

The official Twitter account for 4J Studios, the studio responsible for the console versions of Minecraft, has confirmed the Minecraft for PS Vita release date to be October 15 in Europe.

The announcement gives the first official release date for Minecraft on the PlayStation Vita for gamers across the pond. North American owners of the PS Vita will still have to wait for a release date, as the European launch is exclusive to that region. 4J studios said they still do not have an expected release date for North America in another tweet.

Along with the announcement, a new trailer was revealed from 4J Studios, which can be seen above. The trailer shows off the different environments and materials available for the game at launch. The trailer takes players on a red stone powered cart ride through a game world created by the developer, culminating in a PS Vita recreated in Minecraft.

Minecraft for the PS Vita will be cross-buy enabled for owners of the PS3. If you already own the digital version of Minecraft for the PlayStation 3, you can download it for free on your PS Vita. PlayStation 4 owners who do not have the digital version will be able to purchase it at a reduced price if they own either the PS3 or PS Vita versions.

The release makes good on the promise of Xbox head Phil Spencer, who promised that even with Microsoft’s acquisition of Minecraft parent studio Mojang, development for platforms such as the Sony PlayStation Vita and Apple’s iOS platform would remain unaffected.

With the release date for Minecraft on the PS Vita now set it stone for Europe, we hope the North American release date will be announced soon.
