WWE: The Rock Vs. Roman Reigns At WrestleMania 31? Dwayne Johnson’s Injuries A Concern

When it comes to the WWE, The Rock is almost expected to return for any main PPV event like WrestleMania 31. The real question is who Dwayne Johnson might be expected to take on, and in the past, one of the rumored options was The Rock Vs. Roman Reigns. But is it possible that Johnson’s old injuries may have everyone speculating for nothing?

In a related report by The Inquisitr, it’s said that the WrestleMania 31 main event matches may already be “set in stone,” although the rumor about “Stone Cold” Steve Austin is being denied by Jim Ross. Some believe that Triple H Vs. The Rock was hinted at during a taping of SmackDown.

The only thing we do know for certain is that when the WWE’s The Rock officially returned to Monday Night RAW, the only thing Dwayne would say is that he was trying to make the Brooklyn taping special.

“We wanted to do something special for the crowd tonight. We wanted to do something special for the people and we created this moment. You know what happens, for a moment like this, the WWE Universe, we wanted to create a great moment and it requires a lot of other elements. A lot of elements come together to keep it private and to keep it quiet. Nobody knew… I make movies and being on sets all the time around the world, but there’s absolutely nothing that could ever compare to that type of reaction and emotional connection with the people and I absolutely love it.”

The options for The Rock’s match at WrestleMania 31 apparently started a disagreement between Vince McMahon and Triple H in the past. It was once rumored that McMahon actually wanted The Rock Vs. Brock Lesnar for WrestleMania 31, but Triple H convinced Vince to go with pushing Reigns to stardom instead of rehashing Rock Vs. Brock. The secondary option at the time involved having The Rock take on his cousin, and it’s always possible management may change their minds in the interim.

Unfortunately, the physical condition of both men is in question. When Roman Reigns spoke via satellite, he denied that the injury would be his kryptonite, and claimed he would be back in the ring earlier than expected, although he did not give an exact time table for his return. We just know from the doctor’s description of the surgery on the inguinal hernia that it’s a real possibility that Reigns should not return to the ring for a good three to six months.

According to Lords Of Pain, while everyone wants the WWE’s The Rock back for WrestleMania 31, it’s possible that Hollywood may put pressure on movie star Dwayne Johnson to deny a match.

“It appears that there is a very good chance now of The Rock working with WWE for WrestleMania 31 but one of the main problems will be pressure from movie studios. Rock suffered injuries in his first and second matches with John Cena, the second requiring surgery and holding up the filming of Hercules. We’ve seen The Rock pick up a number of new movies recently and studios that may want Rock for big projects in the spring or summer won’t be happy if he wrestles at WrestleMania 31 due to the risk of injury.”

Of course, those injuries did not prevent The Rock from tossing Rusev out of the ring on RAW, although obviously it was a pretty one-sided “fight,” where Dwayne Johnson never appeared in any danger of being injured himself.

If the WWE’s The Rock does make a return for WrestleMania 31, who do you think he should take on: Triple H or his cousin Roman Reigns? Or, perhaps, even Brock Lesnar?
