NYCC: ‘Archie Meets Predator’ In Comics Crossover

Call it a mashup for the ages, or extoll its complete insanity if you wish, but the Riverdale gang is set to face off against an out-of-this-world threat as the Predator crosses over into Archie Comics.

The unrelenting alien hunter, first glimpsed on screen in 1987 doing battle with Arnold Schwarzenegger, will terrorize Riverdale’s most familiar faces in a new Dark Horse series, Archie Meets Predator, according to Comic Book Resources. The series will reportedly take place during a spring break trip to Costa Rica for Archie and the gang, unexpectedly won by Jughead from a lucky bag of chips. In the aftermath of a fight between Betty and Veronica, the Archie gang attracts the attention of the titular Predator.

“Let’s take this gentle, beloved, classic teen cast and hunt them down and slaughter them one by one,” said series writer Alex de Campi. “Seriously, if you wouldn’t jump at the chance to write something like this, you need your head examined.”

The union of the Predator and the Archie gang works because it’s “completely insane,” de Campi told USA Today, noting that the four issue miniseries will eventually find its way back to Riverdale, following Betty and Veronica’s competition in a “best-dressed contest.”

“After Betty is revealed to be borrowing Cheryl Blossom’s clothes to compete, she and Veronica have a fight and she tearfully runs off into the jungle where, let’s say, she isn’t alone,” de Campi revealed.

Returning to Riverdale with the Archie gang will be Veronica’s trunks of clothes, according to de Campi, though they’ll be a little heavier on the return trip.

“Trunks so big, you could hide a Predator in them,” she noted. “Her Vuitton will never quite smell the same again.”

The crossover series is the latest attention-grabbing move for Archie Comics, which has actively worked to shed a reputation for safe storylines. Earlier this year, the long-running franchise made headlines with the Death of Archie issue that concluded the Life with Archie series. The story touched upon a myriad of social issues traditionally left unaddressed by Archie, as The Inquisitr noted at the time.

Archie Comics have also featured crossover events in the past, notably beginning in 1994 with Archie Meets The Punisher. 2011’s Archie Meets KISS continued the cross-franchise pollination, making the Predator only the latest visitor to the Archie universe.

Archie Meets Predator will hit newsstands in 2015.
